The vivid colors make Summer in Hanoi more joyful.

In the sunlight of summer days, the brilliant yellow of Cassia fistula tree, the purple of Lagerstroemia, and the red of flamboyant are dressing up Hanoi streets, creating vivid and colorful spaces.

The first one is Cassia fistula tree. Bearing the Vietnamese name of “Muong Hoang Yen”, Cassia fistula tree is also called “Lantern Flower”, “Water Scorpion”, “Yellow Scorpion”, “Late Blooming Apricot”, among others.

The Cassia fistula flower season started in May and lasts until July every year. Their mild sweet fragrance is most intense early in the morning. In the blooming season, the space seems to be spread with an iridescent, glittering and brilliant yellow color.

The trees are loaded with hundred tiny yellow flowers. The vivid yellow color makes summer in Hanoi more joyful.

The Cassia fistula tree grows best in full sunlight and good drainage. The tree is usually 10 or 20 meters high, with a trunk diameter of about 40 centimeters. Its yellow flowers grow in clusters, each being around 20 centimeters long, with dozens of small, beautiful flowers and buds.

The tree is planted extensively in the countries in Southeast Asia. Each of these splendid flowers has five small petals that look like tiny lanterns hung overhead.

The brilliant beauty of the yellow flowers is an irresistible attraction for young people who love nature. Despite the hot and sunny weather of June, Hanoi people still enjoy a stroll around the West Lake dazzled by shimmering yellow flowers.

These days, on many streets of the capital city, purple Lagerstroemia flowers also rush to bloom. Photo: Giang Trinh

The flowers only bloom in the Summer, signaling the end of the school year and evoking the sadness of seeing off before the Summer break among the teenagers. Photo: Giang Trinh

The beautiful flowers without fragrance can still enchant many romantic souls that everyone who lives far from the capital city would regret missing when the Summer is around the corner. Photo: Giang Trinh
