The iconic flora of Summer in Hanoi, the bright red flower, known as the flamboyant or flame tree, boasts a unique and brilliant beauty.

Hundreds of Poinciana trees, a symbol of Summer, have bloomed magnificently along To Lich River in Hanoi.

The trees are widely known for their fern-like leaves and flamboyant display of flowers. The flamboyant tree is listed under the urban green tree category.

The flamboyant flowers are familiar with students across the country as the trees are planted extensively in school yards. Usually blooms between late May and mid-June, Poinciana flowers are called "the flower of school age" because they signal the end of an academic year and the start of Summer vacation.

The river, which is colored red by numerous Poinciana flowers, seems to get a new facelift, making many passers-by surprised. Photos; Khanh Huy/The Hanoi Times

The iconic flora of Summer in Hanoi, the red flower, has a brilliant beauty.

Since the 19th century, Poinciana flower trees have been extensively planted on Hanoi's pavements to provide shade in Summer.

The brilliant red color covering both sides of the To Lich River creates a beauty that is different from the usual landscape.

The red Poinciana flower and the bright purple Lagerstroemia blossoms make the river become gentler in the early days of June.

Tall Poinciana trees spread shade along with brightly blooming flower clusters on both sides of the To Lich River.

Poinciana trees are planted evenly along the river, creating a beautiful landscape during its blooming season.
