Ha Dong District used to be the capital of Ha Tay Province, located west and southwest of Hanoi. On August 1, 2008, Hanoi merged with Ha Tay Province, making Ha Dong one of the districts of the megacity.
The district, with rich historical-cultural traditions, is currently one of the localities with rapid socio-economic development and is on its way to becoming a comprehensive urban area of Hanoi.
After 15 years, the political, economic and social conditions in Ha Dong District have been steadily improving.
