Heads of Vietnam’s diplomatic missions pledged to do their best to support the capital city’s development.

Diplomats representing Vietnam in foreign countries pledge to enhance cooperation between Hanoi and international partners, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu said at a meeting with Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung on November 18.

Vu stressed that greater attention by the Hanoi government to foreign affairs has made an important contribution to the capital city’s outstanding developments in recent years.

Hanoi’s clear objectives and its dynamic development have facilitated the heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions in their works, Vu added.

The diplomats pledged to do their best to support the capital city’s development.

For his part, Hanoi mayor Nguyen Duc Chung briefed them on some highlights in the capital’s socio-economic development.

In 2019, Hanoi's economy will likely grow 7.46% (the highest in 10 years). GRDP per capita has stood at more than US$5,600 as of the end of 2018 and is expected to reach approximately US$5,700 by 2020.

Major political and diplomatic events in the city have been successfully organized. Social security has been ensured. The ratio of poor households by the end of 2019 will be 0.31% and by the end of 2020, Hanoi will have no poor households in accordance with the United Nations standards.

Regarding the capital’s development orientation in the time ahead, Chung emphasized the key fields including smart city building, administrative reform, high-quality human resource training, real estate development, health care, cultural exchanges, education, sports, among others.

“In these promotion activities, the great help of diplomats is of prime importance, especially those in Europe, Japan, South Korea and Israel; the major sources of investment” the Hanoi mayor stressed.

He wished diplomats to contribute to making Hanoi city become a friendly, worth-living destination for international friends.
