The museum will be a place for learning, research, cultural enjoyment, and tourism for the people, the armed forces, and international tourists with various artifacts and information.

The Vietnam Museum of Military History is being built on Thang Long Boulevard in Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi, with an investment of VND2.5 trillion (US$101 million).

It is a special project of the Vietnam People's Army. Work on the museum began in 2020 on more than 74 hectares. The first phase is scheduled for completion in June.

The 45-meter Chien Thang Tower, a symbol of Vietnam's independence in 1945, will stand in the center of the square.

A 36-meter building with five floors, one of which is partially underground, houses the main exhibition area.

Airplanes, tanks, other military vehicles and weapons from important historical events will be on display in the museum.

Among the first relics brought to the museum is a MiG-21 piloted by Pham Tuan, who shot down B-52 bombers during the air raids on Hanoi on December 27, 1972.

The museum is expected to be completed and open to the public by the end of this year.
