A series of cultural activities in commemoration of well-known educator Chu Van An on the occasion of his 650th death anniversary are being held in Hanoi.

A thematic exhibition about scholar Chu Van An is underway until December 31 at the Temple of Literature to commemorate the renowned Vietnamese educator.

The exhibition is one of the many cultural activities in commemoration of Chu Van An on the occasion of his 650th death anniversary (1370-2020) and honoring the traditional fondness for learning as well as celebrating Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20) and Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23).

The exhibition entitled “Chu Van An- Thượng Tường Sơn Đẩu” means to praise the talented and virtuous pedagogue and teacher as “the majestic Thai Son mountain, the ever-shining polar star”.

The exhibition consists of typical documents, objects, pictures and drawings related to Chu Van An, and is divided into two parts. The first one, titled “The Portray of a Great Scholar”, depicts Chu Van An’s life, virtues and achievements.

Meanwhile, the second part, “The Teacher - An Ever-Bright Example” introduces the Temple of Literature and objects related to the learning movement following the example of teacher Chu Van An.

Being displayed in a widely-opened space, the exhibition is like an intriguing movie, leading visitors back in time and into the space of over six centuries ago. Interesting exhibits are displayed in three different spaces, among them: Thanh Tri district in Hanoi – the homeland of Chu Van An; the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long and the Temple of Literature complex - the places that Chu Van An used to live and work at; Chi Linh district of Hai Duong province – where the lecturer spent a secluded live for the rest of his life. Through the vividly alive arrangement, visitors could have a better understanding of Chu Van An - the great teacher of many renowned mandarins, talented scholars and tsons of high court dignitaries during Vietnamese feudalism.

The exhibition also presents the first university of Vietnam, some works, roads and schools named after the renowned scholar, which are built throughout the country.

The displaying of “Khâm định Việt sử thông giám cương mục”- “The Imperially Ordered Annotated Text Completely Reflecting the History of Vietnam"- a history book of Vietnam commissioned by Tu Duc Emperor (1848-1883).)

A “sắc phong” or a title grant document for the Rector of the first university of Vietnam from King Ming Mang (1791-1841) to honor Chu Van An’s great merit in schooling administration.

An illustration document is presenting in ''Thượng Sơn Đẩu'' exhibition.

The exhibition will last until the end of 2020.
