Bicycles carrying the flowers with their white petals, golden pistils and deep green leaves meander through Hanoi streets and alleys, releasing their gentle fragrance into the spring air.

Grapefruit flower vendors have come to Hanoi’s streets in recent days and the enchanting scent of grapefruit blossoms draws passerby who might want to stop for a moment, just to breath in the gentle fragrance in the air.

The flowers are brought home for decoration, and can be added to tea or kudzu soup to enhance the flavor. The simple rustic white flowers have won the hearts of Hanoians for their sweet and seductive scent.

Grapefruit flowers are picked from trees having too many flowers. Farmers often have to collect the flowers and prune the trees for them to yield better crops in terms of quality and amount.

These flowers are in full bloom for only a short time, then they usually fade and the tree begins to bear fruits. The fragrant aromas of the tiny flowers can enchant many romantic souls.

The porcelain white flowers with bright yellow pistils are loaded on bamboo baskets by flower vendors who pedal around Hanoi's streets to find customers.

A grapefruit flower seller unhappily told The Hanoi Times: "The flower only blooms in two-three weeks, meanwhile the number of buyers has decreased significantly due to the Covid-19 pandemic".
