Giving souvenirs with the images of zodiac animals is a habit of many people in Asian countries. The Tiger figurines made from Bat Trang ceramics are sold like hotcakes.

The famous pottery village of Bat Trang, Gia Lam District, Hanoi heaves with activity in the days leading to Vietnamese Traditional Lunar New Year, the year of the Tiger. Among the ceramic pieces of stuff massively made by potters, these cute tiger figurines are the most popular ones.

This Tiger-shaped money savings box is a special and meaningful Tet’s gift for children. It is meticulously and elaborately produced by the artisans from Bat Trang village in Hanoi's outskirt.
These animal-shaped money savings boxes are largely displayed for sale at Bat Trang Pottery Market, ready to cheer kids on for the occasion of Vietnamese Traditional Lunar New Year of the Tiger.
The last days of the year are the busiest for the artisans at the Anh Huong pottery workshop.

Lots of tiger or pig figurines are being produced. They are all children’s favorite gifts that hold the lucky money they will be given by adults on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.

In addition to the traditional model of pig-shaped money containers, this year this workshop releases three new models of tiger-shaped boxes.
According to Nguyen Thi Mai Huong, a ceramic artist at Anh Huong facility, close to 15,000 tiger figurines have been produced so far. “This year’s tiger model is selling like hot cake,” she said.

“In order to have a perfect product, every stage of making ceramic statues needs to be done carefully. Kaolin specimens are polished, dried, and painted before being put into the kiln,” she added.

The details of this thrifty tiger are hand-painted, giving it a more vivid look.
The painting stage is also a meticulous work. The paint must be evenly coated and not smeared.
The eye-catching colorful tiger figurines are lovely gifts for children on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.
