A lively world food tour in Hanoi
15:49, 2018/12/09
Despite cold weather and light rain, Hanoi warmed up last weekend with the 2018 International Food Festival, which offered signature dishes from countries across the world and from all regions of Vietnam as well as cultural performances.
This was the fifth annual cultural – charity fund-raising event, hosted by the Service Department for Diplomatic Corps under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign embassies in Hanoi, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), provincial departments of foreign affairs, and local businesses showcased and sold their typical foods, beverages and souvenirs at more than 130 booths.
From early morning, foreign ambassadors joined the “Master Chef” competition, experiencing how to make summer rolls to the South Vietnam style.
The festival is a chance for nationals to exchange culture and enhance mutual understanding as well as to promote Vietnam’s tourism to international visitors through embassies and foreign cultural centers.
It is also a charity fund-raising event with the participation of organizations and individuals. Nearly VND2 billion (US$85,000) has been raised to help people with disabilities, orphans, poor women and needy people in Vietnam.
