In 2019, the Hanoi government has made a broad facelift of the city and enhanced the management of architecture, landscape and construction order, the Government Portal reported.
The municipal government has approved more than 136 detailed planning projects on urban functional areas, road pavements and social and urban infrastructure development.

As many as 642 urbanization projects have been reviewed, 329 of which have been submitted to the Vietnamese government for approval for execution.
Besides, the city’s Old Quarter continues to be upgraded and its centuries-old traits preservation enhanced. The pedestrian space has been promoted to the category of grade-one conservation area which includes 12 streets, connecting with the walking space around Hoan Kiem Lake to create a homogeneous cultural and entertainment area.
On the embellishment of the Red river, the Hanoi government has studied and formulated a zoning plan for the area outside the dykes along the two banks of the river. The move aims to prevent flood, create a modern urban area, effectively exploit the land reserve and develop river transportation and tourism, among others.
Flower gardens and parks have been renovated and built anew. Many streets are equipped with synchronous technical infrastructure. The urban greenery system continues to grow and developed in association with parks and lakes to form an urban green space.
The network of parks, flower gardens, trees and lawns in 12 districts roads has been taken care of and will be expanded in the period of 2020-2024. In addition, another 600 thousand trees will be planted.
The city has invested in urban lighting and decoration to ensure beautiful night-view. The urban lighting rate reaches 98%. Solar energy solutions have been piloted for public lighting as well.
The full package of integrated solutions has been rolled out with strong leadership and active participation of the residents.
