Vinhomes-led investors to build US$3.63-billion residential area

A consortium led by property developer Vinhomes JSC will construct an urban area nearby Cam Ranh Bay in the southern province of Khanh Hoa Province’s Nha Trang City. The development project may cost VND85.3 trillion (US$3.63 billion), including nearly VND1 trillion (US$42.6 million) for land clearance and resettlement.

The area covers over 1,250 hectares and provides 39,000 houses and affordable homes for nearly 231,000 people. The province expects to complete the project in 2027.

Space travelers to meet Vietnamese students

NASA astronauts Michael Baker and Josef Schmid will talk to some 3,000 Vietnamese students at the Binh Dinh Center for Science Exploration and Innovation about life in space. The event is part of Vietnam NASA Space Week hosted in the provinces of Binh Dinh and Hau Giang and HCM City’s Thu Duc City on June 5-9.

This is the first time a Southeast Asian country is hosting a NASA event. Other activities include night sky exploration, VR/AR experiences, and drone flights.

Cai Mep container port ranks 12th in world’s index

Cai Mep International Terminal topped among Vietnamese seaports in the Container Port Performance Index 2022 issued by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence in mid-May.

The terminal, located in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, ranked 12th out of total 348 container ports globally, while six other Vietnamese names, including two major cities of Danang and Haiphong and Cat Lai, Sai Gon, Quy Nhon, and Chu Lai were from 107th to 155th position.

Seven registration centers to be inspected

The Vietnam Register on May 29 began checking seven vehicle registration centers in Bac Ninh, Nghe An, Binh Dinh, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, Binh Phuoc, and Binh Duong provinces. The operation will last until June 20 to ensure the centers meet local demand.

According to the agency, some three million automobiles will need checking until the end of the year. Registration centers and facilities are now capable of examining 500,000 automobiles each month.

Overseas Vietnamese shape up their motherland

Dressed in Ao dai (traditional long dress), over 100 Vietnamese expatriates from all over the Netherlands gathered in Utrecht on May 28 (local time) to form the map of Vietnam to enhance community solidarity, including the Paracel and Spratly Islands.

The activity was part of a series of events hosted by Vietnamese associations in the Netherlands to celebrate the May holidays and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Netherlands diplomatic relations.

Consumer price index up 3.55% annually in May

Vietnam posted a 3.55% annual growth rate in the May consumer price index (CPI) due to higher food, foodstuffs, electricity, and water prices. Core inflation rose 4.3% on-year from Jan-May. The housing and construction materials group saw the highest increase of 1.01%.

Eight of the 11 consumer goods and service groups in the basket of items used to calculate the CPI recorded a month-on-month price increase.

Men suffer food poison after eating longnose gar eggs

Six men in the northern province of Hoa Binh were hospitalized for food poisoning after eating longnose gar eggs. Doctors found that the patients suffered from metabolic acidosis and water and electrolyte disorders. The patients are no longer in critical condition and are under treatment at the hospital.

Longnose gar eggs contain a poison that affects the digestive, nervous, and cardiovascular systems.
