Remembering the days of Hanoi's liberation through archives

Using materials from the National Archives, the displays vividly recreate the atmosphere as the city's "Five Gates" welcomed the army entering to take over the capital on October 10, 1954.

Nearly 100 images and archival materials showcasing the heroic historical moments of the nation and the capital since the signing of the Geneva Accords in 1954 are on display at an exhibition held in Hanoi.

The exhibition "Hanoi - Memories of the Days of Taking Over" was opened to visitors at the Exhibition House 61 Trang Tien Street, Hoan Kiem District on October 3.

According to Tran Viet Hoa, Director of the National Archives Center III, the is divided into three thematic sections: Some documents about the victory of Dien Bien Phu, the Geneva Accords; the preparatory process for the takeover; the moment of the takeover of Hanoi.

The exhibition, which will last until October 20, is an opportunity to look back on a historical journey to make people love, be proud of and take more responsibility for Hanoi, to help the capital overcome all challenges and make new achievements.

                                                       "Hanoi and the Gates" 

Also on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the capital, the National Archives Center I (Department of State Records and Archives), in cooperation with the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center and the Hanoi Department of Home Affairs, organized an exhibition of archival documents entitled "Hanoi and the Gates".

The opening ceremony will take place on October 7 at 10 am at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, 9 Hoang Dieu Street.

The exhibition recreates the history of Hanoi's citadel gates, providing the most intuitive and vivid perspective on the social activities around them and the disappearance of most of the gates in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

In addition, it presents the process of the capture of the capital Hanoi (October 10, 1954) and the development of the capital after the reunification of the country until today, through historical sources, pictures, maps, drawings, documents written in Sino Nom and French, which are kept at the French School of the Far East in Hanoi (EFEO), the Institute of Social Sciences Information, and especially at the National Archives Center I, the Hanoi City Historical Archives Center.

The exhibition features 200 documents and images, with content divided into 3 themes: "Old Gates" introduces the history of the formation of the city gates of Thang Long-Hanoi; "Victory Gates" recounts the event of taking over Hanoi in October 1954; "Gates of Hanoi Today" highlights the change of Hanoi after the administrative adjustment.
