The “Made in Vietnam” goods week is expected to stimulate domestic consumption of local products in the campaign “Vietnamese buy Vietnamese goods.”

Hanoi People’s Committee in collaboration with government agencies and Thai supermarket chain Central Retail Vietnam jointly launched the “Made in Vietnam” goods week on October 23 at the King Ly Thai To statue park.

With nearly 100 booths, the event introduces major Vietnamese goods and products including agricultural products, seafood, textile, footwear, among others.

With an aim to honor high-quality Vietnamese products, the “Made in Vietnam” goods week is expected to stimulate domestic consumption of local products in the campaign “Vietnamese buy Vietnamese goods.”

Moreover, the event also presents a platform for Vietnamese enterprises to seek potential partners and opportunities in foreign markets.

Vice Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said the goods week would also help local firms partly offset the impacts Covid-19 pandemic and aid the country’s economic recovery efforts.

For the domestic market, major retailers such as Central Retail with its large distribution network would be a key factor to increase sales of goods.

Currently, the penetration rate of Vietnamese food at Go! and Big C super markets under Central Retail is over 90%.

Mr. Hai tipped that foreign distributors have also been instrumental in increasing Vietnam exports. In 2016, export turnover of Vietnamese products via Central Retail reached US$46 million, and rose to US$205 million in 2019.

Vice General Director of Central Retail Vietnam Nguyen Thi Phuong said while the country has a wide range of goods and products, distribution remains a challenging issue. The “Made in Vietnam” goods week, therefore, could serve as an efficient channel for local suppliers to partner with potential retailers. Ms. Phuong added.

The success of the event this year would be a stepping stone for Central Retail to host the Vietnam goods week in both Vietnam and Thailand in 2021, aiming to promote brands of Vietnamese goods in the international market, she continued.

Vice Director of Hanoi’s Department of Industry and Trade Tran Thi Phuong Lan requested Central Retail Vietnam and suppliers to ensure the quality and clear origins of the products displayed at the event.
