Hanoi willing to boost cooperation with Uruguay’s localities in numerous fields

Hanoi’s government is willing to enhance sport exchange, football players and coaches training with Uruguay.
Hanoi is committed to creating the best conditions to cooperate and exchange experiences in developing numerous fields with Uruguay’s localities, including IT technology, software development, culture, sports and urban construction, among others.

Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung made the statement while hosting new Uruguayan Ambassador to Vietnam Rosario Portell on August 16.

Chung wished that the ambassador will have a successful term of office, bring Vietnam-Uruguay relations to a new height, and connect Hanoi with other Uruguay’s localities.

Briefing the guest on the capital city’s socio-economic development, Chung said that Hanoi’s GDP per capita is US$5,200/year with an average growth of about 7.3%/year. Currently, the city receives 26 million domestic and foreign tourists annually.

Chung also affirmed that Hanoi attaches great importance to building a startup ecosystem and wants to invest in software for young people.

Expressing his admiration for the Uruguayan football team that is always at the top of the Americas, Chung said that Hanoi also has its own team, contributing significantly to regional and international sports. Thereby, Hanoi’s government is willing to enhance sport exchange, training of football players and coaches with Uruguay. 

For her part, Ambassador Rosario Portell affirmed that Uruguay always expects to cooperate with Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general in a wide range of fields.

Rosario Portell said that Uruguay’s capital city (Montevideo) is one of the most liveable cities in Latin America, with great potential for exchange and cooperation with the capital city of Hanoi.

So far, Uruguay has promoted cooperation in the field of cultural exchanges, especially football with Vietnam in general, Hanoi in particular via joint tournaments, Rosario Portell added.

She also expected Hanoi to exchange experiences with Uruguay on preparing the Formula One race which will be held in Hanoi next year.

Besides, Uruguay expects to learn from Hanoi in urban planning and organization, the ambassador said, adding that the two sides can boost cooperation on tourism and trade.

Ambassador Rosario Portell revealed that at the end of October, a business delegation on software will visit Vietnam and look forward to receiving Hanoi’s positive support in this field. Chung said Hanoi will welcome the delegation and stressed that Hanoi has the largest IT human resources in the country, with a great contribution to Vietnam’s development.
