Hanoi to boost environmental sanitation ahead of upcoming elections

The local authorities are expected to boost environmental hygiene at polling stations, public areas and major streets in Hanoi ahead of the general elections in May.

Hanoi Urban Environment Company (Urenco) is expected to keep up the work, ensuring environmental sanitation at major districts in Hanoi ahead of the upcoming election for Deputies of the 15th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-26 tenure.

These districts would include Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung, Dong Da, Nam Tu Liem, My Duc, and Thanh Oai, stated Urenco in a report, saying the work would last until May 23, the day when the general elections are set to take place nationwide.

Under the plan, Urenco is expected to mobilize required resources to collect and transport waste during the day, especially at polling stations, public places and major streets.

To ensure effective implementation of the plan, the firm would consult the plan with local authorities so as to support electoral units in fulfilling their responsibilities during the election process.

As the whole country is gearing up for the upcoming elections, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh yesterday issued a directive calling for greater efforts in the Covid-19 fight given the serious situation of the pandemic over the past few days.

Chinh urged local authorities to strictly comply with anti-pandemic regulations and instructions, saying those violating the rules would be subject to strict punishment.

In order to raise public’s awareness on the significance of the general elections, Hanoi’s Department of Justice had released a document encouraging local people to participate in the national online contest about the election that has recently ended late April.

In its own fanpage, the Hanoi Women’s Union also launched a similar event that is scheduled to end on May 15, expecting its members to realize their role and responsibilities to ensure a successful election process.
