At the forum’s sideline meeting with representatives from Swedish business community, Chung briefed them about Hanoi’s plan of building and developing a smart and sustainable city, and introduced potential opportunities for investment cooperation in Hanoi city.

On August 1, 2018, the Vietnamese government approved the scheme on sustainable and smart urban development in the period of 2018-2025 with orientation to 2030, under which Hanoi was selected as one of Vietnam’s three cities to join ASEAN's smart cities network.

In executing the scheme, Hanoi’s local authority identified e-government as a pillar, with the aim of applying information and communication technology (ICT) to the whole city’s work flow to improve efficiency and people’s satisfaction, Chung said.

He noted that in the urbanization process, Hanoi is facing numerous challenges in terms of what model and method to implement smart city, and its "sustainability" in the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Sweden is one of the countries with a lot of experiences and advanced technologies in developing smart city, such as public transport, smart city, clean energy, environmental technology, health and education, infrastructure development, especially development of smart city infrastructure. The country boasts many world acclaimed corporations including Ericsson, Volvo, ABB, Electrolux, IKEA, Husqvarna, Tetra Pak, among others, Chung added.

"Therefore, Hanoi’s local authority always welcomes the participation of foreign investors, including Swedish companies, in implementing smart city projects and ensuring sustainable developments in urban development and master planning, transportation, environment, healthcare, technology transfer; manufacturing products using high technologies, retail, and education," the mayor urged.

“I would like to welcome the Swedish business community to Hanoi in the shortest time. The city’s government is committed to creating the best and most favorable conditions to support Swedish investors to succeed in the city,” Chung pledged.
