The cooperation between Hanoi and Australian localities has been strengthened on the basis of good ties between Vietnam and Australia.
Culture, tourism, and education are some of the key fields which Hanoi wants to cooperate with Australia’s Victoria state, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said at the reception for Victoria's Governor Linda Dessau in Hanoi on September 30.

Chung expressed his delight that the cooperation between Hanoi and Australia’s localities has been strengthened on the basis of good ties between Vietnam and Australia.

Expressing gratitude for the Australian government’s support in sharing experience to organize the Formula 1 (F1) race in 2020, Chung affirmed that Hanoi will successfully host the race with the help of Australia's F1 executives and experts.

Briefing the guest on Hanoi’s socio-economic development, Chung said that the capital’s economic growth rate has remained at 7.3% annually over the past three years and the target for 2019 is 7.8%.
The city attracted US$7.5 billion in foreign direct investment in 2018 and the number is expected to reach US$9 billion in 2019, and thus continuing to lead the country in FDI attraction, Chung said.

In the process of urbanization, Hanoi also faces a number of challenges such as environmental pollution, shortage of facilities and resources for development, and the lack of experience in building a startup ecosystem, among others.

Therefore, the chairman of the municipal People's Committee hoped that the Hanoi city and Victoria state will find ways to further exchange experiences, on the basis of discussions during Hanoi delegation’s visit to Victoria in June 2016.

For her part, Linda Dessau congratulated Hanoi’s development achievements, and hoped the upcoming F1 race in Hanoi to be a success.

Governor Linda said Victoria’s Melbourne city is also facing difficulties due to population growth. Thus, the city is trying to diversify jobs, implement infrastructure projects, focus on education and innovation, among others, with a view to maintaining strong growth.

The governor affirmed that in her position, she will continue to support and connect Hanoi with Australia’s localities on the basis of practical and effective cooperation projects.

At the reception, the Hanoi People's Committee and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) signed a memorandum of cooperation.
