Hanoi proposes cooperation with major Norwegian companies in urban development

Norwegian technologies are suitable to solve Hanoi’s current issues arising from the urbanization process.
Hanoi would create favorable conditions for Norwegian companies to do business and support the city in the process of urban development, according to Nguyen Duc Chung, chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee.

Chung made the statement at the meeting on May 24 with Norway’s seven leading corporations namely ITS Norway, Pixii AS, Ruter, Avfall Norge, CAmbi, Host and Tomra, which operate in the fields of smart transportation, energy, public transport development, waste treatment and plastic recycling.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to Norway on May 24 - 26.

At the meeting, executives of Norwegian companies briefed Hanoi’s mayor on their expertise and advanced technologies in mud and waste treatment, which later are recycled into fertilizer for agricultural production; green technologies in collecting, treating and recycling toxic waste; payment technologies and smart transport applications promoting citizens using public transport. 

Additionally, Norwegian companies also shared experiences and procedure on how to carry out  cooperation with them in mud and wastewater treatment, as well as public transport development, expressing their interest in partnering with and transferring modern technologies to Hanoi. 

Hanoi’s offcicial highly regarded valuable experiences from Norwegian companies in the city’s priority fields on the course of developing  a sustainable and smart city. 

Chung informed that Hanoi is among Vietnam’s three cities taking part in ASEAN’s smart city network. 

Facing numerous challenges in the urbanization process, Chung said the city is willing to support Norwegian companies looking for business opportunities and transferring technologies, deeming Norwegian technologies as capable of addressing Hanoi’s current issues. 

In response, a number of Norwegian companies informed they would soon send a business delegation to Hanoi in a bid to inquire about investment and business opportunities.
