Hanoi needs to pay more attention to housing and urban transport
Hanoi has mobilized and channeled the investment to the harmonious development of urban infrastructure system, improved downtown transport and gradually completed basic infrastructure.
Although Hanoi has made advances in housing and urban transport matters, much is left to be desired and done to keep up with the city's urban development, the government portal reported.
According to the Hanoi Department of Construction, the city has adopted a plan to renovate 28 old apartment buildings. Zoning plans and general planning elaboration are actively carried out.
Hanoi city has approved 29/38 zoning plans, 31/33 general planning projects, the coverage rate of planning is 86%.
In terms of urban infrastructure, the land reserved for road has increased gradually every year, now reaching about 9.38%. Hanoi has completed key and urgent traffic works, opened another 26 bus routes, bringing the total number of downtown buses routes to 118, and ensured a minimum urban lighting rate of 95-98%.
Regarding housing development, in 2018, the city finished the construction of more than 10.2 million m2 of houses. The average housing area per capita reached 25.86 m2/person.
Especially, Hanoi has mobilized and channelled the investment to the harmonious development of urban infrastructure system, improved downtown transport and gradually completed basic infrastructure.
The city’s development of urban technical infrastructure has succeeded in ensuring clean water, drainage and wastewater treatment, planting trees, maintaining environmental sanitation, lighting and burying underground cable line.
Moreover, Hanoi is improving urban management and planning management. Violations of regulations on urban management and public order have been reduced, management of construction order and land recorded initial positive changes.
However, the city still needs to overcome limitations. The innovation and application of high technology in planning, building and managing urban development in Hanoi have not kept pace with the digital economy and digital knowledge.
There remain many shortcomings in the decentralization of management, leading to shortage of clue and dispersion, the construction of infrastructure has not kept up with the demand of urban development.
Chairman of the Hanoi Urban Planning and Development Association To Anh Tuan said that in the time ahead, the urban development program should be proactive and abide by the planning, to ensure the formation of synchronous urban areas.
Director of the Hanoi Construction Planning Institute Nguyen Truc Anh stressed that the development of satellite urban chains is essential, relieving the burden in the inner city.
"The Vietnamese government and Hanoi’s authority have been investing in developing public transport systems, such as BRT, sky train, bus network, to reduce the load for downtown roads and curb private vehicles in the traffic flows,” Truc Anh added.
He proposed that in order to reduce traffic congestion and promote investment efficiency, Hanoi’s authority needs to prioritize public transport.
