Hanoi attaches great importance to cooperation with Japan’s localities

Hanoi always attaches great importance to cooperation with Japan’s localities, including Fukuoka prefecture, Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People’s Council Phung Thi Hong Ha said at a reception for Tosho Matsuo, acting chairman of the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly in Hanoi on October 21.

Ha highlighted the city’s socio-economic achievements in the past time, saying that the achievements have been partially contributed by partners, businesses and investors from Japan, including Fukuoka prefecture.

The friendship between Vietnam and Japan in general, Hanoi and Fukuoka in particular is evidenced by regular visit exchanges of the two sides’ leaders and materialized through cooperation projects and programs in numerous fields such as economy, education, culture, among others.

Currently, Japan is the leading country in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Hanoi with US$10.4 billion and 1,115 projects, and the largest official development assistance (ODA) provider of the capital city with US$2.98 billion and 33 projects. Most of Japan's ODA is channeled into projects of great socio-economic importance such as urban transport infrastructure, environment, water supply that contribute significantly to the capital's economic growth.

Appreciating the development of Japan’s agriculture thanks to the application of advanced science and technology, Ha expressed her hope that Fukuoka will help transfer technology to develop the high-quality agriculture model in Hanoi.

In 2020, Hanoi wants to keep coordinating with Fukuoka to organize cultural-art exchanges, cuisine activities and investment, trade and tourism promotion in order to increase mutual understanding and promote cooperation for the two countries’ benefit, Ha added.

For his part, Tosho Matsuo, who is also chairman of the Fukuoka-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, said that Hanoi and Fukuoka have held practical exchange activities in an array of fields including economy, environmental protection, cultural exchange and education, among others.

Based on the signed bilateral agreement and cooperation minutes, the two sides have attained the positive results which have contributed significantly to further promoting Vietnam - Japan friendship.

In 2019, Hanoi and Fukuoka will celebrate the fifth year of cooperation agreement. This is an important milestone, contributing to strengthening and tightening the cooperation between the two localities, as well as the two countries’ friendship.

Hung said Hanoi highly values the friendship between Vietnam and Japan, especially the friendly and cooperative relationship between Hanoi and Fukuoka prefecture which has yielded good results.

The vice chairman expressed his expectation that Tosho Matsuo and members of the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly will continue to make contributions to enhancing friendship between the two localities and countries.
