Hanoi and New Delhi look to tap cooperation potential

Hanoi always creates favorable conditions for Indian investors to increase cooperation, especially in the fields of smart city, information technology, education, training, trade and tourism.
Hanoi always stands ready to enhance cooperation with India’s New Delhi city and the two cities should focus on promoting cooperation potential, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said while hosting Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Pranay Verma in Hanoi on September 3.

Chung emphasized that the two sides’ current cooperation is still not commensurate with their bilateral potential.

The direct air route from Hanoi to New Delhi to be launched in the time ahead will help the two sides enhance travel and trade.

Briefing the guest on Hanoi’s socio-economic development, Chung said that the capital city’s economic growth rate was over 7% per year and in the first eight months of 2019, it has expanded 7.8%. The city’s per capita income is about US$5,200 per year.

However, the rapid development also causes a number of issues for Hanoi such as environmental pollution, traffic congestion, among others. Therefore, Hanoi aims to expand investment and construction cooperation, towards a smart city focusing on high-quality human resources.

Appreciating the role of Ambassador Pranay Verma and the Indian embassy, ​​Chung hoped that India would be a companion in Vietnam capital’s effort to achieve the targets.

Hanoi always creates favorable conditions for Indian investors to increase cooperation, especially in the fields of smart cities, information technology, education, training, trade and tourism, Chung stressed.

He added that the Hanoi People's Committee is always willing to cooperate with the Indian embassy to organize cultural exchange events in the capital city.

For his part, Ambassador Pranay Verma endorsed Chung’s proposals, stressing the great potential for the two localities to expand trade bonds. 

Pranay Verma affirmed that India is willing to share experiences with Vietnam in the fields of mutual interest, trying to find opportunities for connecting localities for bilateral cooperation.

The ambassador also said that the direct flights between Hanoi and New Delhi and other Indian cities would contribute to facilitating the exchange process.
