Zoom in the first night of cleaning up Hoan Kiem Lake
Vu Le - Cam Anh 11:07, 2017/11/30
On Nov 28, the famous Hoan Kiem Lake starts to be dredged and cleaned, three days sooner than expectation.
During the first day, workers promptly dredge, empty waste manually near the embankment around corner of Hang Khay Str and Le Thai To Str.
Tip-cars of Hanoi Drainage Company then deliver the waste and mud to final destination of Yen So landfill.
General Director of Hanoi Drainage Company Vo Tien Hung directly controls the work and encourage workers. The workers are divided into some groups covering different phases.
It’s estimated that there are 150-200 cadres, workers at Hoan Kiem Lake every night to fulfill the clean-up project. As Hoan Kiem Lake is the Hanoi iconic lake, all the clean-up units involved must take care of environment sanitation.
The work will be carried out from 11pm to 5am from Monday to Thursday and from 12pm to 5am from Friday to Sunday to avoid disturbing Hanoian's daily activities.
Covering some 12ha, Hoan Kiem Lake (also known as Sword Lake) is located at the centre of the capital. Apart from its spiritual and cultural values, it is considered a scenic venue and a hub for some weekend relaxation, away from the chaos and bustle of the city.
Under the plan, approved recently by the Hanoi People’s Committee, the company will dredge some 57,400cu.m of mud from the lake and take measures to clear all waste from the lake.
The plan is estimated to cost VND 30 billion (~US$1.3 million) from the city’s budget.
During the cleaning process, the company will take measures to prevent noise and ensure labour safety and clean working areas
