The event will take place for the first time in Vietnam and will gather around 200 participants, including 100 representatives of 49 nations that are members of the World Peace Council.

The 22nd Assembly of the World Peace Council will be an opportunity to introduce the country and Vietnamese people to international communities, Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Phan Anh Son said at a press conference on November 18.

“The event will be an occasion on which Vietnam strengthens the relationship and friendship with other nations in the world,” he said.

“The preparation for the upcoming event is almost finished as planned,” Son said.

Participants at the event will discuss the world’s stability and security amid the rise of traditional and non-tradition security issues and talk about the solutions to problems in the global environment, peace, and stability. The event will also feature the Hanoi International Peace Summit.

The 22nd Assembly of the World Peace Council is the event that presents the direction of the Party in foreign affairs under the new circumstances as stated in Directive 25-CT/TW dated August 8, 2018, and Directive 12-CT/TW dated January 5, 2022, by the Party’s Central Secretary Committee.

The event shows Vietnam’s positive efforts and contributions to enforce peaceful activities of the World Peace Council, enhance the nation’s stature in the world, and describe Vietnam as a responsible, active member of international communities.

Additionally, the 22nd Assembly of the World Peace Council will foster the relationship between Vietnam and other council members, promote the country's image, and gain support from the international community on some of Vietnam’s foreign affairs issues, such as the sovereignty of the South China Sea.

The World Peace Council is an international organization that promotes peaceful activities globally, consisting of 135 representatives of communist and left-wing parties from more than 100 countries.

After 70 years of development, the World Peace Council has established tight relations with other international organizations and countries to develop a world of peace for mankind.

Vietnam was one of the founding members of the World Peace Council, with 11 representatives joining the launching assembly of the council in 1949, including professor Pham Huy Thong and mathematical specialist Le Van Thiem.

After 21 assemblies, the World Peace Council has always supported Vietnam in fighting for independence and unification and achieving remarkable socio-economic growth results. Vietnam has been voted the Vice Chairmanship and member of the Secretary Committee of the World Peace Council many times.

In 2017, Vietnam successfully organized the World Peace Council’s Standing Committee meeting in Hanoi and celebrated the 100th anniversary of Russia’s October Revolution with the council.
