Various activities to honor the Vietnamese language will be held in Hanoi on September 8 to mark the Vietnamese Language Celebration Day in Vietnamese communities abroad.

A series of activities to honor the Vietnamese language in overseas Vietnamese communities will be held in Hanoi on September 8 by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (SCOV), Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Last year, the Prime Minister approved the project to honor the Vietnamese language in the overseas Vietnamese community in 2023-2030. According to this, September 8 has been designated  the day to honor the Vietnamese language in overseas Vietnamese communities as part of the implementation of the Party and State policy on overseas Vietnamese (OV).

Overseas Vietnamese delegation attends Hung Vuong's death anniversary in 2023.

As 2023 is the first year of the project, a conference on promoting Vietnamese language abroad will be held on the morning of September 8 to evaluate the results of the activities, propose measures to raise people's awareness of the role and value of national language and culture, and thus promote the learning and use of the mother tongue in the OV community.
In the evening, SCOV will coordinate with VTV4 to organize a ceremony to wrap up the Vietnamese Language Celebration Day in Vietnamese Communities Abroad 2023 at Au Co Art Center, 8 Huynh Thuc Khang, Hanoi.
It's an opportunity to thank individuals and organizations at home and abroad who have actively contributed to Vietnamese language promotion activities, especially the learning and use of Vietnamese in the community.
Five winners of the "Search for Vietnamese Ambassadors Abroad 2023"contest will be awarded at the event.
These activities will be broadcast live on VTV4, National Assembly Television, and SCOV's digital platforms.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, chairwoman of SCOV, said these activities motivate the community to preserve and promote the Vietnamese language and remind OVs of their homeland and roots.

"By the end of the year, we will build Vietnamese bookshelves in the Vietnamese community in Japan, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, and other countries, in addition to annual training courses on Vietnamese language teaching for SCOV teachers," Hang said.

SCOV will continue to work with relevant agencies to design and implement programs and activities to make the Vietnamese Language Celebration Day popular abroad, such as the Forum on Vietnamese Language Preservation Abroad (Poland); a conference on the Vietnamese language in Japan; and building a library of Vietnamese books in Laos.
