The 14th legislature of Vietnam’s National Assembly convened its 10th session today [October 20] to discuss remaining issues in its working agenda for this term.

At the opening speech, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan highlighted the timely response of the government and local authorities to mitigate losses and damages caused by natural disasters in the central region, and called for more support from the community to the people in the disaster-stricken zones.

Mrs. Ngan said as the 14th legislature of the National Assembly is approaching its final sessions of the 2016 – 2020 term, the 10th meeting is an opportunity for National Assembly deputies to address pending issues.
Firstly, the National Assembly would assess the implementation process of the socio-economic development plan this year, as well as discussing the plan for 2021. Deputies are expected to review the effectiveness of the National Assembly’s resolutions on socio-economic development during the 2016 – 2020 period, and vision for the 2021 – 2025.
Secondly, the National Assembly is set to ratify seven bills, three draft resolutions and discuss four other bills to better ensure human and civil rights, national security, social order and support socio-economic development.
Notably, the National Assembly would ratify a resolution on Vietnam’s participation in the UN’s peacekeeping operations, which shows the country’s commitment to global peace and stability.
Thirdly, National Assembly deputies will continue to supervise and address issues emerged during the operation of the government, along with the appointment of key positions in the government, among other issues.
The final working session of the National Assembly is set to take place in 19 days and divided into two phases, including online session from October 20 – 27, and a face-to-face session from November 2 to 17.
