Vietnamese President to visit Japan

Vietnam’s President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse will pay a visit, taking place from May 29 to June 2 to Japan, at the invitation of the State of Japan
Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko are planned to meet with and hold a state banquet in honour of President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse.
As scheduled,  President Quang will also hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Established in Sep, 21, 1973, relations of Japan and Vietnam have thrived rapidly in recent years. Japan was the first country in the G7 group to welcome Vietnam’s General Secretary to visit (1995); to establish a strategic partnership with Vietnam (2009); and to recognise Vietnam’s market economy status (2011) and invite the country to attend the expanded G7 Summit (2016).  
The two countries have maintained frequent high-level meetings, with the highlights being visits to Vietnam in 2017 by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, and PM Shinzo Abe. 
The year  also marked a new development step in the bilateral relations as the two countries issued a joint statement on deepening the Extensive Strategic Partnership during the official visit to Japan by PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
Last year, Japan became the largest foreign investor in Vietnam, with total registered capital of US$9.11 billion, equivalent to 25.4% of the total inflow of foreign direct investment in the Southeast Asian country.
Japan was also the largest ODA provider for Vietnam, and the fourth biggest trade partner of the country, with bilateral trade reaching US$33.4 billion last year
