Vietnamese cinematography, though heavily influenced by Western culture, retains its traditional character reflecting the values of the nation’s people and its culture, Lan said.
A highlight of the festival will be the screening of films directed by French filmmakers or French directors of Vietnamese origin, which have received high international acclaims.
The event will also showcase a number of documentaries aimed at helping French friends gain a better understanding of the different historical periods of Vietnam.
French Ambassador to Vietnam Jean Noël Poirier expressed his appreciation for young Vietnamese filmmakers and also his admiration for Vietnam’s rapid development in recent years.
“Through Vietnamese movies, audiences will come to a fuller understanding of and appreciation for Vietnam’s traditional values and cultural identity,” he said.
Vietnamese Ambassador to France Duong Chi Dung said the festival is part of activities to mark the Vietnam Year in France and the 40th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties.
“The event is a godsend in helping Vietnam promote its image worldwide,” he noted.
The event will be jointly organised by Iriscommsex Company and the Vietnam Cinematography Department under the auspices of the French Embassy in Vietnam.
