Vietnamese mango exports to Japan sharply increase
According to the Department of Plant Protection, Viet Nam’s mango exports to Japan have surged high.
Head of the Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Hong said the current export price of Viet Nam mangoes is around US$8-10 per kilo, US$2-3 higher than Thai mangoes.
Viet Nam mangoes are very competitive and much sought after in Japan, Hong said. Currently, Xuan Loc district has a total mango production area of 54 hectares meeting VietGap. Provincial leaders are to carry out projects to increase quality of products and meet VietGap and Global GAP standards in order to take full advantage of this opportunity.
During a recent fact-finding tour of fruit gardens in the province, a Japanese business delegation had high appreciation for the quality of Vietnam's mangoes, and expressed a wish to import mangoes in huge volumes.
To put Cat Chu mango market in Japan, the authorities of Vietnam took 5 years to prepare
dossiers and construction process of new pests approved by the Japanese side. So far, the mango exporters in Vietnam, mainly in the south have been exported to Japan and by consumers appreciate.
