Vietnamese banana entered Japanese strong supermarket
By Tuan Minh 16:01, 2016/05/04
This is the first time Vietnamese banana sold at Japanese Don Kihote supermarket chain, said Nguyen Trung Dung, Commercial Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan.

Mr. Dung revealed that a Vietnamese company was allowed to initially ship around 15 tons of banana to Japan. So far, Vietnamese banana are available at 10 supermarkets of Don Kihote in Tokyo and surrounding localities such as Saitama and Chiba. As schedule, Japan will double banana imports from Viet Nam and expand distribution chains. The Japan market has high demand on banana imports with an approximately 1 million ton per year.

Hidekatsu Ishikawa, President of the Japanese importer, VIENT Company spoke highly of Vietnamese bananas. He said that they are suitable to the taste of Japanese consumers and have competitive prices. He revealed that other local supermarkets in Niiggata also sell Vietnamese bananas. Earlier, Viet Nam firstly exported banana to Japan in early 2013 but the Vietnamese fruits were not on the shelves of large supermarkets like Don Kihote.

This official presence of Vietnam’s bananas at Japan’s retail network provided a number of opportunities for Vietnamese exporters to expand distribution networks and improve the quality of products.
