Vietnam to ensure safety for national exam amid Covid-19 resurgence

Candidates who are infected with the novel coronavirus will be exempted from taking the exam and automatically recognized as graduates.

Vietnam's national high school exam will be held on July 7-8 as scheduled despite the Covid-19 resurgence, according to Mai Van Trinh, director of the Quality Control Department under the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET).

For the pandemic-affected localities, the MoET will coordinate with the Ministry of Health to issue specific documents, guiding students to join in the exams while ensuring safety, Trinh said.

The MoET plans to divide candidates into four groups depending on the extent to which Covid-19 is involved: those under medical treatment, those under mass quarantine, those in close contact with suspected cases and other students.

Trinh noted that the classification of candidates aims to ensure students’ rights as well as measures against Covid-19 in the current period.

Local education departments will be responsible for exam organization, supervision and test marking. The MoET will compile exam questions, apply information technology to strictly supervise the examinations, and organize the multiple-choice test on computers.

The exam results would not only determine student graduation, but also decide admission to universities and colleges.

Since 2015, the two separate exams have been pooled into one and named national high school exam.

Hanoi schools are ready for online testing

More than two million students from kindergarten to high school levels started online classes from May 4 as the capital city has recorded new coronavirus cases in community.

Therefore, to complete the school year tasks, Hanoi schools are urged to be ready for online testing.

“If students have joined online schooling, they of course can take the online tests,” said Nguyen Thanh Hai, deputy head of Education and Training Department of Phuc Tho district in Hanoi.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training will guide students to take the second semester exam at an online conference scheduled to take place on May 13.

The department demands absolute safety for students, teachers and educational administrators in the city amid a fresh Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
