Vietnam offer to equivalent assessment of Siluriformes fish
On March 3rd, Vietnam Department of Agriculture Forestry and Fishery quality Management (MARD) issued public note requiring USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to operate equivalent assessment for inspection system of Siluriformes (cat fish, include Tra fish, basa fish, Silurus, hemibagrus...).
On the same day, Vietnam Department of Agriculture Forestry and Fishery quality management issued public note asking US Embassy in Vietnam support to send related document to FSIS. Equivalent assessment follows Siluriformes inspection program of FSIS, come into force from March 1st 2016, with transit time last until August 31st 2017.
During the transits time, until now, there are 62 Vietnam foundations in exporter list of Siluriformes to this market.

According to FSIS, the equivalent rating about inspection system includes 6 steps: (1) Export nation ask FSIS to rate equivalently; (2) export nation complete Self-Reporting Tool and attached file; (3) FSIS ask to add information, (4) FSIS confirms SRT completion, review the file; (5) inspect at export nation; (6) introduce rating draft to collect comment and acknowledge equivalency (with an official rule).
Now, according to information published in FSIS website, there are 5 nations: Bangladesh, Guyana, India, Nigeria and Thailand sent record to ask for equivalent assessment and all at step 1 of the procedure.
According to MARD, at almost all Cuu Long river Delta provinces, tra fish price tends to rise after lunar New Year holiday, since buy demand increases in the wake of low inventory and forecast of supply shortage during the whole year. Compared with the late January (lunar calendar), price of class-1 Pangasius catfish (800gr/one fish) increases by 2.500 vnd/kg, to 25.000 vnd/kg and expected to be higher.
