Vietnam increases presence in global scientific rankings  

Vietnam has nine scientists ranked among the top 10,000 most influential scientists globally in 2024, and 60 in the top 100,000, according to Elsevier’s list based on Stanford University’s Scopus database. Key scientists include Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc, Associate Professor Le Hoang Son (Vietnam National University), Professor Tran Xuan Bach (Hanoi Medical University), Professor Vo Xuan Vinh, and Dr. Nguyen Phuc Canh (University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City). 

Vietnam, Mongolia to strengthen cultural relations  

 

Vietnam Cultural Days in Mongolia 2024 will take place from September 27 to October 2 in Ulaanbaatar to celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations. The event will feature traditional and contemporary performances, a fashion show of Vietnam’s ao dai (traditional long dress), and exhibitions promoting Vietnamese culture and tourism.

Vietnam bags five medals at World Youth Championships

 

Vietnam has won five golds in total from the ongoing World Youth Weightlifting Championships which runs until September 27 in Spain.

Vietnam has earned five golds, one silver, and one bronze medal so far with Tran Minh Tri, K’Duong, and Do Tu Tung having bagged all five golds for the Vietnamese. 

Vietnamese contestant wins prize in Leeds Int’l Piano Competition

 

Vietnamese pianist Luong Khanh Nhi, 27, has won third prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition, one of the world’s foremost music competitions.

Nhi performed Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major with the orchestra. Her award is the greatest achievement by Vietnamese contestants in over 40 years, following Dang Thai Son's first-place win at the Chopin International Piano Competition in 1980. She is pursuing her Doctoral of Musical Arts degree at the University of Michigan.

HCM City, Belarus’s Minsk enhances ties 

 

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Executive Committee of Belarus's Minsk city on September 23 signed a cooperation agreement for the 2024-2026 period to strengthen trade, economic, and humanitarian collaboration. It also aims to commercialize medical products and boost bilateral tourism connectivity.

 

Quy Nhon pilots solid waste classification at source

 

A waste classification at source program was launched in Vietnam's clean tourist city of Quy Nhon, in the central coastal province of Binh Dinh on September 23.

The program is part of the "Scaling Up A Socialised Model Of Domestic Waste And Plastic Management" project funded by the Norwegian Government through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to promote recycling towards a circular economy in the clean tourist city.

 

India boosts presence in Ninh Thuan 

 

The "India Corner" was inaugurated on September 23 in Phan Rang–Thap Cham, Ninh Thuan. This cultural and educational space provides books, computers, and resources to promote India’s culture and history. Ninh Thuan, home to Champa culture with deep Indian roots, plans to establish direct flights from India to enhance regional connections and cooperation.

 

Over 500 athletes to compete in national karate competition

Over 500 athletes will compete in the 33rd National Karate Championship on October 13-22 in Dien Bien to promote tourism and strengthen Karate nationwide. It also prepares Dien Bien for hosting larger sports events.
