Vietnam-Japan Tourism Promotion Dialogue to be held in November
The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) in Vietnam will hold the "Japan Tourism Promotion Dialogue" in Hanoi on November 8, bringing together tourism agencies from both countries that are making efforts to develop incentive tourism to Japan. From the beginning of the year to date, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan has increased by 16.9% compared to the same period in 2019, before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
More than 200 people awarded Golden Globe Awards in technology
On October 26, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union held a seminar on "20-year journey of the Golden Globe Awards in Science and Technology" in Hanoi, with the participation of 60 awardees. There are 204 outstanding individuals who have received the awards, which recognize the most exceptional young talents in Vietnam's young science and technology community.

Vietnam faces a serious shortage of recycling facilities, according to experts at the seminar "Towards Successful Implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Regulations in Vietnam" on October 26. A standardized process from collection to recycling is needed, but Vietnam's recycling facilities lack the necessary infrastructure to meet EPR standards. Recycling activities in Vietnam are mainly based on informal sectors, such as trading villages, which procure and recycle scrap metal and waste paper using obsolete and polluting technologies.
Vietnam joins ITB Asia 2023 in Singapore
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, in cooperation with the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore, has set up a booth to promote Vietnam's tourism among Singaporean and regional travel businesses during ITB Asia 2023, the international travel trade fair for Asia held in Singapore from October 25 to 27. The event is expected to create opportunities for exchanges, meetings and strengthening trade ties. Vietnam welcomed nearly 310,000 Singaporean tourists before the Covd-19 pandemic.
Vietnam's 500 most profitable companies announced
Market data company Vietnam Report and VietNamNet Online Newspaper announced the 500 most profitable companies (Profit500) on October 26. Topping the list are PetroVietnam Group (PVN), electronics firm Samsung Thai Nguyen Co. Ltd, telecommunications group Viettel, Vietcombank, and Techcombank.
According to Vu Dang Vinh, general director of Vietnam Report, these companies have proven their leadership to steer Vietnam's economy and domestic business community through global uncertainties and economic recession, thus driving Vietnam forward.
Music festival 8Wonder to feature US band Maroon 5

US band Maroon 5 is the next international artist to perform at the second 8Wonder music festival on Phu Quoc Island on December 16. The band is expected to perform Animals, This love, Payphone and Sugar, among other hits.
The first edition of the event, held in July in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province, featured global star Charlie Puth and attracted an audience of around 7,000. More and more international artists have been coming to Vietnam in recent years, the most notable being BlackPink.
Vietnamese universities make it to 2023 global rankings
Six Vietnamese universities are included in the Times Higher Education's list of the world's top 500 universities. The six Vietnamese universities include Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hue University, Duy Tan University, and Ton Duc Thang University.
Hanoi National University is the only one to be rated and listed in all eight disciplines of the ranking, which are social sciences, business and economics, physical sciences, computer sciences, engineering, clinical and health sciences, life sciences, and education.
Vietnam wins open tournament for U12 players at the world cadets chess championships
Vietnamese junior chess player Dau Khuong Duy topped the FIDE World Cadets Chess Championships (Open U12) held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt from October 16-26. After 11 rounds, Duy had a total of 9.5 points, followed by another Vietnamese player, Nguyen Nam Kiet, with 8.5 points.
Other Vietnamese players like Tran Hoang Bao An and Le Thai Hoang Anh finished the tournaments in the top five.
