Vietnamese-American found dead after missing for five days

The body of Tran Xuan Nhi, a 33-year-old overseas Vietnamese resident of West Bay, Texas, US, was found by local authorities on May 12, according to the Vietnam News Agency. She was reported missing on May 5 and was last seen in the 1100 block of Montour, according to TX Center 4 Missing.  

Police have not released any other information or facts about the case, including the timing and condition of her death.

Red River Delta Techfest 2023 opens in Nam Dinh

The Red River Delta Innovative Entrepreneurship Day 2023 kicked off on May 12 in the northern province of Nam Dinh to promote new products, cultivate the regional innovation ecosystem, and connect regional enterprises. The event features nearly 100 booths showcasing more than 1,000 technology products from 11 localities in the region.

Key activities of the event include discussion panels, a high-level forum on innovation and entrepreneurship in the Red River Delta, and the 13th Inter-regional Science and Technology Development Meeting.

Drug smuggling gang busted in HCM City

HCM City's police announced on May 11 that they had busted a gang smuggling drugs from Cambodia to Vietnam, seizing nearly 95 kilograms of drugs. Nine suspects have been indicted. In particular, about 84 kilograms of drugs were found at the home of 26-year-old Truong Ngoc Mai.

Police are still investigating the case.

Rivalry between Vietnam and Thailand at SEA Games

Vietnam and rival Thailand played to a draw in their final Group B match at the 32nd SEA Games Men's Football Tournament on May 11. Thailand's Achitpol Keereerom opened the scoring in the 3rd minute when he capitalized on a slip by Vietnam's Luong Duy Cuong. Right winger Le Quoc Nhat Nam equalized for Vietnam in the 54th minute.

Vietnam finished second in Group B behind Thailand and will play Indonesia in the semifinals on May 13.

Da Lat coffee to enter Japanese market

Japan's UCC Group launched a competition on May 11 to find high-quality coffee and help local farmers achieve higher quality standards. Twenty-three farmers participated in the contest and eight won recognition. UCC Group will support the selected farmers to sell their products in Japan and promote local brands.

In particular, the contest winner will have his products printed with the Vietnamese national flag, the farmer's name, and information about his coffee. The coffee outputs will be on shelves in 600 Japanese stores.

Hai Phong to build a US$469-million industrial and non-tariff zone

The construction of the Xuan Cau Industrial and Non-Tariff Cluster will start on May 13 at Lach Huyen Deep Sea Port in Hai Phong City. The project is worth a total of VND11 trillion (US$468.8 million) and covers 752 hectares. It is expected to be completed in 2033 and will employ about 50,000 workers.

The industrial cluster will be home to enterprises engaged in high-tech development, logistics, and export production and processing. Enterprises can enjoy various incentives, including a minimum corporate income tax rate of 10% in 15 years and a tariff-free policy for imported products.

Bamboo Airways no longer member of FLC Group

Bamboo Airways will issue 772 million shares to convert the debt it borrowed from Le Thai Sam, a board of directors member. On May 8, major shareholder FLC Group agreed to sell 401.5 million shares to board member Sam. FLC Group also gave Sam full authority to make decisions regarding the airline's operations.

If successful, the board member will increase his stake in the airline to 53.59%. Sam owns 231.7 million shares or a 12.53% stake in the company. With the share issuance and saleBamboo Airways is no longer a member of FLC Group.
