Vietnam-Japan cuisine festival to be held in Hanoi
A festival highlighting Vietnam and Japan cuisine will be held from March 23 to 25 in Hanoi.
The event, which is part of the Japanese Cultural Exchange Festival 2018, will be held by the Hanoi Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center to mark the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties.
Ten booths to be set up by the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam will introduce special cuisine, including ramen, soba ramen, yakisoba ramen, takoyaki cake, and sushi, among others.
In addition, 10 booths of Hanoi will introduce special cuisine from Vietnam, including pho, bun thang (hot rice noodle soup), nem ran (fried spring roll), banh cuon (stuffed pancake), banh khuc (Vietnamese spinach sticky rice balls), and banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich).
A number of cultural, sport and traditional art exchange programmes will be held along with events to promote bilateral trade cooperation.
The Japanese Cultural Exchange Festival 2018 will take place at Ly Thai To Flower Garden around Hanoi's Hoan Kiem lake from March 23 to 26. The event will be conducted by the Hanoi People’s Committee in coordination with the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam.
Visitors will have an opportunity to admire specific flowers of the two countries, experience traditional Japanese handicrafts and delicacies, a Japanese tea ceremony, kimono fashion shows, and traditional folk dances and games. As scheduled, about 30 Japanese cherry trees and 10,000 cherry branches, as well as Vietnamese bonsai trees and specific flowers, will be displayed.
The event will include traditional art performances such as Ca Tru and Xam singing by artists from Hanoi. By introducing images of Japanese cultural beauty, land and people to Hanoians, it will be an opportunity to share experiences and cooperation in the field of culture, education, health, tourism and economics between Hanoi and Japan.
Japan is currently the third largest visitor-generating market for Vietnam’s tourism after China and South Korea. Nearly 600,000 Japan tourists visited Vietnam in 2017, up 7.8% year-on-year. Vietnam expects to welcome one million Japanese tourists in 2018, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
