VITM Hanoi 2018 will take place at Hanoi Friendship Cultural Palace from March 29 to April 1. The event aims to encourage travel firms to promptly apply modern technology to sell their products, thus promoting their capacity to attract and serve customers online. The event will have 500 pavilions, announced Vietnam Tourism Association.
Major activities will include seminars on online tourism, an international street food festival, conferences, introduction of destinations, and signing ceremonies for several cooperation deals.
More than 40,000 discounted air tickets and 15,000 discounted package tours will be on offer at the fair. Some 650 businesses from 18 countries and territories, as well as from 43 provinces and cities from the nation have so far registered to take part in VITM Hanoi 2018.
Vietnam received a record 12.9 million foreign visitors in 2017, a year-on-year increase of 29.1%, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Of the total, 10.9 million tourists arrived by plane, while 1.8 million came to Vietnam on land. About 258,800 visitors came to the nation by seaway.
Foreign tourists to Vietnam this year included 9.7 million people from Asia, representing a year-on-year increase of 34.4%. The country received 1.8 million people from Europe, 817,000 people from the Americas, 420,900 visitors from Australia, and 35,900 people from Africa. Visitors from China numbered 4 million, 48.6% higher than last year, the office said.
Vietnamese tourism will take drastic and synchronous measures in 2018 to reach the target of receiving 15-17 million foreign tourists. Through this initiative Vietnam will step up tourism promotion both in international and domestic markets next year.
Besides, the tourism sector will also focus on turning Vietnam into a safe and friendly destination, while creating clear changes in improving the quality of services and tourism, the Government said at a recent online meeting with cities and provinces nationwide.
