Vietnam gets ready to protect citizens in Ukraine: Spokesperson

Currently, there are about 100 people of Vietnamese origin living in Donetsk and Luhansk, the regions that are the theaters of conflict.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country has been ready to take measures to protect its citizens in Ukraina when necessary.

Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang made the statement today [Feb 23] when being reached for comment on the situation in Ukraine.

“The Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine is in regular contact and actively discusses with the Vietnamese community in Ukraine to learn about their situation,” Hang said.

She added that Vietnam is closely monitoring the current tensions in Ukraine and called for restraint by related parties and dialogues as well as promoting diplomatic means to solve disputes in accordance to the UN Charter and international law, contributing to peace, security, and stability in the region and the world.

Currently, there are about 100 people of Vietnamese origin living in Donetsk and Luhansk, the regions that are the theaters of the conflict.   

The Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine has set up a 24/24 hotline to get information on citizen support.

In case of need, Vietnamese citizens can reach + 380 (63) 863 8999 or +84-981-848-484 for protection.
