The festival aims to strengthen mutual understanding between the two nations and bring Vietnamese people living in Japan closer together, said Deputy Ambassador of Viet Nam to Japan Nguyen Truong Son at a press conference last week.
According to the organisers, this year’s festival will include an exhibition of over 100 booths, including 60 food booths and 40 booths offering souvenirs. The event will also feature art performances in an effort to introduce Vietnam’s history, culture and people to the Japanese people.
According to Deputy Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Truong Son, stressed that the festival enhances mutual understanding between the two countries and draws overseas Vietnamese in Japan closer together. He also expressed his hope that the festival will deepen ties between the two countries’ governments and people.
In addition, Vietnamese pop artists such as Ho Quynh Huong, Tieu Chau Nhu Quynh and Ngo Kien Huy will also perform at the festival, along with an Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese long dress) fashion show.
Tourists will have the opportunity to enjoy Vietnamese food, cultural programmes and art performances. The event is expected to attract 150,000 visitors. The festival was first held in 2008 as part of activities to celebrate the 35th year of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations. Last year, the event saw 200,000 visitors, the highest ever.
In 2013, the Vietnam Festival was held in Tokyo's Yoyogi Park, is an exciting and delicious slice of Southeast Asian life. Like the other summer international festivals held at the park, this event provides a wealth of exotic foods, drinks, and entertainment, but this one has quickly become a crowd favorite.
This festival is all about bustle. Visitors will quickly be impressed by its size and number of vendors selling, cooking, and entertaining. Everywhere, people are milling about in T-shirts featuring the Vietnamese flag design, and wearing nón lá, the Vietnamese name for the conical-shaped hat that the country is famous for.
