Vietnam expects further support from OECD
Nhat Minh 16:06, 2020/12/15
The relationship between Vietnam and the OECD has developed positively and substantially in recent years.

Vietnam wishes to continue receiving support and accompaniment from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to achieve its goal of becoming a middle-income country by 2030 and a developed country with high income by 2045.

The statement was released by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the signature of the OECD Convention via a video link on December 15.

Mr. Phuc said that Vietnam will continue to adopt appropriate good practices to promote the restructuring and improvement of the economy's competitiveness, the quality of growth, international integration and the good implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“I appreciate the achievements that the OECD has gained over 60 years of development. With a mission of “better policies for a better life”, the OECD has become the world's leading forum for policy discussion, positively contributing to global economic policy and economic governance,” the government leader said.

Through its scientific approach based on practical, multidimensional, interdisciplinary data, the OECD has shared with developing countries many valuable lessons and good practices on trade - investment, and environmental protection, climate change, inclusive and sustainable development, according to Mr. Phuc.

The Prime Minister said that the world is changing rapidly and profoundly. The strong development of the fourth Industrial Revolution had a broad impact on all areas of socio-economic life, showing that many growth models at both the national and corporate levels have no longer been relevant. "The Covid-19 pandemic poses an unprecedented challenge that requires global solidarity and coordination to handle."

In a new context, Prime Minister Phuc expected the OECD to continue promoting its research and policy advisory role, promoting new engines and models of growth, and highlighting the role of rules-based multilateralism, formulating new rules and standards in governance, especially digital economy, digital trade, reform of the international tax system and towards the achievement of SDGs and inclusive development.
