Vietnam donates US$100,000 for Indonesia quake relief
The decision was made basing on the solidarity spirit, Vietnam`s foreign ministry said in a statement.
Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry on October 2 announced that the government decided to immediately donate US$100,000 for quake relief in Indonesia.
“Vietnam's government will contribute US$100,000 towards relief and restoration work in Indonesia”. The decision was made basing on the solidarity spirit, the statement said.
Earlier, Vietnam's government sent a letter to condole Indonesian people and government for their losses during the twin quake-tsunami disaster.
Last weekend, Indonesia was hit by a 7.5-magnitude quake and an ensuing tsunami that has claimed over 1,300 lives. The 7.5-magnitude quake struck just off the central island of Sulawesi, setting off a tsunami that engulfed the coastal city of Palu.
BBC on Wednesday quoted local disaster response officials as saying that the number of people known to have died in Friday's earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia has risen to 1,347.
Aid supplies are beginning to arrive in the city, where survivors have no access to running water or electricity.
