Vietnam desires to enhance bilateral relationship with Russia

State President Tran Dai Quang asserted that Vietnam expects to enhance bilateral relationship with Russia more intensively and effectively, bringing benefits to both at his reception for Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Patrushev Nikolai Platonovich on July 25 in Hanoi.
The State President announced achievements during his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and meeting with PM Dmitry Medvedev on the occasion of his official visit to Russia in June.

Accordingly, the two sides’ leaders discussed specific measures to accelerate the economic and trade cooperation, heading to raise the two-way trade value to US$10 billion by 2020. In term of national security and defense, they exchanged ways and shared experience in ensuring national security and coping with traditional and non-traditional security challenges.


The usual dialogue mechanisms between the two nations’ high-ranking leaders, comprehensive cooperative mechanisms and close and effective cooperation have made active contributions to each side’s development and a world of peace, stability and prosperity, affirmed State President Quang.

Vietnam highlighted the role of the Russian Federation in the Asia-Pacific region and supported the raising status of Russia at the regional security forums and hopes to promote cooperation with Russia within the United Nations’ peacekeeping activities framework, he added.

The host proposed Mr. Patrushev Nikolai Platonovich direct Russian relevant agencies to effectively cooperate with the Vietnamese Ministries of Public Security and Defense in combating crimes for the sake of their people and for the international and regional peace, stability and development.

The State President suggested Russia sponsor training courses for Vietnam’s staff working at national defense and security sectors.

Mr. Patrushev Nikolai Platonovich reported to the State President the talks between him and Minister of Public Security To Lam and the working session with Minister of Defense Ngo Xuan Lich. The two sides exchanged issues in terms of national defense and security, the global and regional security issues and terrorism threat.

He thanked Vietnam for sending a delegation to join the eighth international high-level security meeting in the Russian region of Tver in May and made positive contributions to the success of the event.
