A 64-year-old woman became the 38th Covid-19 death in Vietnam, the Ministry of Health reported Thursday [May 20].

The woman, who is Covid-19 Patient No.3197, died of liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma – HCC) and Covid-19.
The patient underwent several days in the intensive care unit and her health condition was discussed at the national doctor consultation held online on May 18.
She suffered chronic hepatitis B virus infection 10 years ago and HCC four months ago.
This is the third death reported in the ongoing coronavirus outbreak that broke out in late April.
On May 18, MoH announced that there were 20 patients of critical condition. A national consultation meeting was held online to find the best treatment for them who were infected with Indian variant’s sublineage B.1.617.2.
At present, about Covid-19 patients are under treatment at 61 clinic institutes nationwide. Patients of mild symptoms are treated at the affected areas, while those of critical conditions are transferred to national hospitals, including the leading center in Covid-19 treatment National Hospital for Tropical Diseases located in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
