Vietnam concerned about Armenia – Azerbaijan conflict

Vietnam supports all the mediation efforts of the Minks OSCE and urges all parties to refrain from violence, put an end to the escalating tension.

Vietnam is concerned about the ongoing conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region between Armenia and Azerbaijan that has caused many deaths and injuries, stated Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang.

“Vietnam supports all the mediation efforts of the Minks OSCE and urges all parties to refrain from violence, put an end to the escalating tension for the interests of the two countries and their people, and resolve conflicts by peaceful meanings in accordance with international law, contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world,” said the spokesperson at a press meeting on October 1.

Armed clashes between in the Nagorno-Karabakh region between Armenia and Azerbaijan broke out on September 27 with the deployment of heavy weapons, marking the worst conflict after the two countries agreed to a cease fire in May 1994.

The UN Security Council on September 29 expressed concern about the conflict, condemned the use of violence and backed the call of Secretary General Antonio Guterres for an immediate cease fire.
