Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will pay an official visit to Vietnam this month at the invitation of Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

The information was released by the Vietnamese Vice Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Doan Khac Viet, at a virtual press briefing held in Hanoi today (September 9).
Viet told local media that Wang Yi will co-chair the 13th Meeting of the China-Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation together with Vietnamese DPM Pham Binh Minh from September 10 to 12.
“The visit takes place at the time that Vietnam-China relations continue to flourish with cooperation in various areas witnessing encouraging results,” Viet said.
The two sides will discuss how to promote the potential of Vietnam–China relations as well as issues of mutual concerns.”
As scheduled, Wang Yi will talk with Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and pay courtesy visits to Vietnamese top leaders.
Wang Yi’s visit aims to enhance the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, in the interest of the peoples of the two nations, peace, cooperation, and development between the two countries and over the world, stated Viet.
The diplomat also said that the Covid-19 vaccine and related issues would be touched upon during the visit.
Vietnam is the first destination of Wang Yi’s tour to several South East Asia countries from September 10-15, which also includes Cambodia, Singapore, and the Republic of Korea.
Vietnam – China relations have seen developments in numerous areas over recent times. Two-way trade between Vietnam and China reached US$133 billion last year, up 13.82% from 2019, According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
China has donated Vietnam 500,000 Sinopharm vaccine doses while pledging another two million doses in the coming time.
