From February 8 to 22 (the 23th day of the last month of the Year of the Rooster to the seventh day of the Year of the Dog), the airline launched nearly 1,900 flights of the major air routes from/to Hanoi - Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City, with more than 280,000 passengers, up 13.7% year-on-year.
A representative of Vietnam Airlines said over 98% of the carrier’s airplanes were ready to use during peak time, keeping the average rate of On-Time Performance (OTP) index of its flights above 90%. The OTP rate exceeded 95% on February 15 and 19.
To avoid overloads, the carrier bolstered the use of wide-body aircraft in the key air route connecting Hanoi with Ho Chi Minh City, which was able to carry 300 passengers per flight.
At the start of the new lunar year, Vietnam Airlines distributed tens of thousands of lucky gifts in the form of 9999 gold bars made from chocolate to passengers on regular international flights to/from the airports in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Through these special gifts of luck, Vietnam Airlines wanted to send customers New Year wishes for safety, good health, prosperity, joy and luck. The company paid special attention to aircraft maintenance as well as flight scheduling for pilots and attendants to ensure 4-star quality service delivery to passengers.
In 2017, Vietnam Airlines reported an accumulated revenue of VND88.4 trillion (US$3.89 billion) and accumulated pre-tax profit of VND2.8 trillion (US$123.3 million), exceeding the annual pre-tax profit target by 72%.
