On the occasion, Vietnam Report published the Vietnam’s top 50 enterprises to honour 50 firms which have been listed in the VNR500 for three consecutive years, whilst recording the largest revenues, and effectively performing their corporate social responsibility. Accordingly, Vietnam Airlines has ranked 9th among the country’s top 50 excellent enterprises.
VNR500, compiled by Vietnam Report and online newspaper Vietnamnet, also showed that private firms accounted for half of the enterprises in the ranking, with their contribution to the economy rising from 27% of the GDP in 2016 to 32.3% in 2017. The Top 500 Largest Enterprises list from the Revenue Ranking Board follows the Fortune 500 model.
This has been the 11th year the rankings have been released to honor businesses posting outstanding results. Last year saw the recovery of the economy that helped the business community to post soaring results. Some 75% of firms in VNR’s survey reported increasing revenues in 2017, outshining the previous year by a large margin.
Vietnam Airlines announced its estimated 2017 revenue at VND88,400 billion (US3.8 billion), some 23.5% increase year-on-year. Particularly, the total revenue of the parent company Vietnam Airlines Corporation alone has been estimated at VND66,200 billion (US$2.9 billion) with pre-tax profit of VND1,550 billion (US$67 million), some 8% increase against 2016. Its State budget contribution has nearly doubled to over VND1,900 billion (US$83 million) during the year, Vietnam Airlines said.
In 2017, Skytrax, a UK-based consultancy firm which runs an airline and airport review and ranking, has placed Vietnam Airlines 14th among 20 carriers offering the world’s best premium economy class experience. It is the second year in a row that Vietnam Airlines has been listed among the top global 50 by SkyTrax.
In addition, Vietnam Airlines has been named as the world's leading airline in the premium economy class and the world's leading cultural airline at World Travel Awards 2017. Vietnam Airlines’ premium economy class seats are currently available for flights to France, the UK, Germany, Australia, and Japan.
