Viet Film Fest launched in US
Nearly 8 movies and 21 short films on Vietnam will be screened at the Viet Film Fest (VFF), during April 10-13 at the UltraLuxe Cinemas, Anaheim GardenWalk, California, US.
The entries are sent by directors from across the world, including Vietnam, the US, Australia, and Canada. Directors from the UK, France, Germany, and Japan have also forwarded their entries for the event. This is the first time that entries from the Republic of Korea will be screened during the event.
As per schedule, the movie Am Muu Giay Got Nhon (How to Fight in Six Inches Heels) by director Ham Tran will be screened on the opening night of the event. The romantic comedy movie based on the fashion in New York and Ho Chi Minh City has been screened in Vietnam since last October.
The spotlight night of the event will showcase the movie Number 10 Blues/Goodbye Saigon by Japanese Director Norio Osada. The film was shot during 1974-75 and is a portrayal of love between a Vietnamese woman and a Japanese man. The film was showcased at the Okuradashi Film Festival 2013 and won the Audience Most Favourite title.
On the closing night of the event, Teo Em, a comedy film, which topped the box office last Christmas season in Vietnam, will be screened. The Grand Jury Trong Dong (Bronze Drum) Award of the film festival will be given to the romantic comedy titled Tien Chua (Funny Money) by director Thien Do, which has been screened in Vietnam since last October.
On the same night, VFF will launch its online Viet Film Fest Channel to showcase movies screened at previous VFF events.
Tickets for the event are available at the venue and online at ultrastarmovies.com.
VFF is organised by the Vietnamese American Arts&Letters Association (VAALA) to celebrate Vietnamese voices in cinema around the world.
Since 2003, VFF has been widely regarded as the largest Vietnamese film festival organised outside of Vietnam. In the past decade, the festival has attracted thousands of national and international attendees and showcased hundreds of short films and features that have been submitted from many corners of the world, including the United States, Australia, Canada, and France.
Germany, Israel, Poland, and United Kingdom have also sent their entrees for screening at the festival in the past.
Awards presented at VFF include the Grand-Jury Trong Dong Awards for Best Feature Film and Best Short Film, Best Cinematography, Best Actor, and Best Actress.
The audience will also have the opportunity to vote for the Audience Choice Award for feature and short films
