Toulouse’s €402,000 project to help preserve Thang Long Citadel
The project to preserve Thang Long Citadel is one of the upcoming co-operation activities between cities of Hanoi and Toulouse (France).
This was stated at the meeting of Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy and the Toulouse delegation led by the city’s Vice Mayor Jean-Claude Dardelet.
In particular, both cities committed to enhancing co-operation in areas that are Toulouse’s strength. In terms of heritage preservation, the French city would help Hanoi conserve its famous Thang Long Citadel with French technology and consultation via a project totaling EUR402,000 (US$497,450), with 50% funding from Agency of French Development (AFD), 25% from Toulouse city, and 25% from Hanoi.
According to the agreement inked by the two cities, in 2019 Hanoi would hold “Hanoi culture days” in Toulouse to increase mutual understanding between the two countries’ citizens, building foundations for further effective co-operation.
Hanoi’s Vice Mayor Ngo Van Quy also expressed hope that Toulouse would continue contributing to the tenth conference on co-operation between Vietnam and France in decentralization in April, 2019. “We are hoping to work with Toulouse on expanding trade, economic, and tourism ties,” Quy noted.
For his part, Jean-Claude Dardelet agreed with the Hanoi leader’s suggestion and pledged to maintain co-operation with the city in education, technology, and heritage perseveration. According to the Vice Mayor of Toulouse, France would prepare with help of agencies connecting the two countries to ensure the conference’s success.
Also at the meeting, Quy highlighted Hanoi’s economic and social performance during the past year as well as milestones in the partnership of Hanoi and Toulouse since its establishment in 1996. Both sides witnessed non-stop projects to renovate historic sites, Hanoi’s Old Quarter, as well as infrastructure design and consultation. The two cities are also aiming for positive exchange in culture, artistic training, and trade promotion.
