Thousands participate in rehearsal of “Cultural Festival for Peace”
Duy Khanh – Linh Pham 12:57, 2024/10/05
Nearly 10,000 participants are citizens and representatives from various city forces who took part in the rehearsal for the official opening of the “Cultural Festival for Peace”, which will begin at 7 AM on October 6.

This event is a highlight in a series of unique cultural activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 – October 10, 2024) and the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being awarded the title "City for Peace" by UNESCO (July 16, 1999 - July 16, 2024).

The rehearsal took place with a ceremony of the incense offering at the statue of King Ly Thai To to pay tribute to the ancestors who made great contributions to the liberation and building of the capital.

Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong and Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha oversaw the rehearsal.

The program is divided into three main parts: Memories of Hanoi, The Flow of Heritage, and Hanoi: City for Peace, City of Creativity.

The main stage was elaborately designed, recreating the 60 days and nights of fighting within Hanoi, a heroic epic marking the beginning of the nation's resistance against the French colonialists.

A vivid reenactment of the historical moment when troops marched into Hanoi on October 10, 1954, as the People's Army took control of the capital, symbolizing the end of colonial rule.

This heroic moment was brought to life through large-scale live performances featuring nearly 1,000 soldiers and 200 artists and dancers.

Following this was a special flag-raising ceremony, reenacting the first flag-raising event in Hanoi on October 10, 1954, after the capital was liberated.

The event created a unique cultural space, reviving Hanoi's glorious history since the Capital's Liberation 70 years ago, while showcasing the city's ongoing efforts to preserve its cultural heritage and build a modern, civilized, and globally integrated capital.

The parades showcased various forms of traditional folk art, including many UNESCO and nationally recognized intangible cultural heritages, along with the unique traditional cultural beauty of the capital.

The "Cultural Festival for Peace" is a major cultural event in Hanoi, expected to create a special media impact, spreading the historical and cultural values of the capital to the nation and international friends.

Art forms such as ca tru (ceremonial singing), water puppetry, hat xam (folk singing), and spiritual heritages like the worship of Tan Vien Son Thanh, the Trung Sisters, and Saint Giong provided deep insight into the enduring cultural values of Hanoi.

Through this event, Hanoi not only affirmed its position as a historical and cultural city but also as a key center for tourism, economics, and politics in the country.

Duy Khanh from The Hanoi Times will bring you to the rehearsal.
