Pham Van Dong street, part of Hanoi's Ring Road 3, in Mai Dich - Nam Thang Long section has been widened to 12 lanes and works on the widening of the stretch connecting the two bridges of Nhat Tan and Thang Long have just been completed, VnExpress reported.
Pham Van Dong street is one of the arterial thoroughfares connecting innercity districts with Noi Bai International Airport. The project began in October 2016 with an investment of more than VND3,000 billion (US$129.6 million).
This is the northwestern entrance to Hanoi, connecting the capital city with other northwestern provinces, so it is often congested. By expanding it to 12 lanes, the municipal government hope to resolve the chronic traffic jam on this highway.
Pham Van Dong road was completed and opened to traffic over a year ago; however, half of the road was fenced to build the Mai Dich - Nam Thang Long viaduct on Ring Road 3 since January 2018. The 5.3 km viaduct, including 4.6 km of elevated stretch, was invested with VND5.3 trillion (US$230 million).
Besides, in July, the construction and repair project for Thang Long bridge kicked off with a total investment of nearly VND270 billion (US$11.7 million). This repair project will be completed by the end of 2020 at the same time with the inauguration of Mai Dich - Nam Thang Long viaduct, ensuring smooth, safe and convenient traffic.
